I feel you, buddy. EXO don't appeal to me at all either. I assume people like them for the reasons that I like the groups I do like. They're attractive, they're funny, it's nice to watch them sing and dance... whatever. Also SM is a powerful company with a lot of power to promote its artists. Successfully, it would seem. But I'll scream and say "BIG NO" loudly if there are still people who think that EXO does not have to fight hard because it comes from a big company.
There's no reason that you have to like every kpop group. Think of it like ice cream flavors: they're all great, but everyone has a preference.
EXO is likable and lovable in each and every way.
First of all , i’m biased towards them cuz they are the group that got me into kpop. The song growl is my guilty pleasure but tbh i love each and every EXO song without discrimination. EXO is completely my type. I loved them. Each and everything about them is my happiness.
They are extremely talented handsome boys. What else is needed. They’ve got looks , they’ve got talent. The dance line , the rap line line , the vocal line , all are so beautifully synchronized.
Moreover , EXO continues to impress me every time , each and every comeback they get better an better. From boys to men , their entire journey was tough and i’m proud to be in this fandom.
Also , they are genuine to most extent. Like if shipping is considered , i don't think its only for fan service that they do all those skin ships. They are greatly attached to one another and also respect each other. They are not fake. Everything they said and did on SHOWTIME was not fake
They are very good dancers and the choreography is always on point. The songs are of various genres and types ,again awesome . I simply love exo. They are my everything. There is something or the other for everyone in this fandom.
Hmm.. sometimes I also hear people think of EXO as "cold" and they're not beagle, bla-bla-bla.. Eventhough I'm an EXO-L, I totally understand why you would think of EXO as "cold" or "not as upbeat as others". I'm assuming you're talking about how they're not as hyper / playful / "funny" / beagle-like as, say, BTS / GOT7 / Seventeen / MONSTA X.
Let me bring you to a day in 2014, 15 May (yes I remember the date, it was... unforgettable). A member left EXO *and* sued the company. What entailed was a bunch of drama, confusion, misunderstanding and a whole lot of fans leaving. A few months later, another left and after some more drama, another left. During this period, everything hurts. I was there. And it hurt. Seeing the members cry out of pain and betrayal, watching them act happily on camera, on stage but knowing deep inside they're tired.
After this "dark period", everything changed, the members and fandom. We matured through the fandom conflicts, the betrayal we felt and the love and trust we rebuilt between fans and EXO. At this point, nothing stood between us. EXO composed and wrote a song for us in the EXODUS album and with that, we were okay. We were not who we were before, they were not who they were before, but we still had each other.
EXO has changed so much, from the lovable, innocent 12-membered group, to a mature, still playful, but different family. Of course we still have our ups and downs, battling with injuries and rumours on members leaving. But I believe with everything that we've been through, we're fine.
And that is why I stan EXO. The things that I've experienced together with them, gosh, what an emotional roller-coaster.
Oh and of course, I came for their amazing A+ albums (maybe you felt that their songs are not as emotional bc they don't compose most of their songs but it's because their company is still reluctant), explosive choreography (as a performance group, their charisma is unbelievable pls watch El Dorado and Don't Go) and amiable personality.
They may not be as hyper as other groups on camera but I really, actually love their synergy and chemistry: a bunch of introverts and extroverts enjoying and complimenting each other's company. :)
However There's no reason why I should love EXO :)
